About the Organization
Mt. Nebo Community Based Organization (CBO) is situated on the outskirts of Bungoma Central Business District at Kanduyi. The site is about four kilometers from the CBD. The group was formed in 2018 but registered in 2021 so as to become more effective in dealing with issues affecting the community.
Promoters of the group are driven by a passion to alleviate and make a difference in the lives of young and vulnerable groups in the community.
Located along Trans Africa highway and bordering Uganda, Bungoma County has a large migrant population that constantly moves into the larger East Africa and back. The lifestyle of this migrant population breeds a culture of casual sex and other sexual practices uncommon to the local population.
Coupled with inadequate economic activities to engage them, youth and other vulnerable groups are easily lured by this migrant population into a lifestyle totally alien to them. Forced engagement in such escapades has resulted in rape, incest, sodomy and other unnatural acts. The resultant stigmatization and the urgent need to rehabilitate the victims is a prime goal of Mt. Nebo CBO.
The promoters of Mt. Nebo CBO envisage comprehensive service able to carry out sensitization programmes, rescue missions, provision of safe-shelter facilities, litigation, rehabilitation and eventual reintegration of victims into society.
The CBOs Projects will target all vulnerable groups in all the 9 Sub Counties of Bungoma County in collaboration with other institutions including the Police Service, Office of the First Lady, Office of the County Women’s Representative, the Department of Culture and Social Services, Religious organizations, Schools, CBO’s and Local FM radio stations.
